DENTURE CARE

You just got your NEW shiny dentures! Learning to wear dentures is like learning to ride a bicycle- practice is necessary. Here are a few tips to make it easier for you to get the best from your new dentures.

The aftercare of a denture is very important!

Cleaning your dentures after eating

Remove your dentures and be very careful with them, have a towel near by so the dentures will not break if you drop them. Do NOT bend or play around with the clasps or damage the acrylic. Next, use a denture brush, water and soap to gently brush your dentures. do NOT use toothpaste, as this will scratch the wear down the denture.

Cleaning your gums or natural teeth after eating

Daily cleaning of your mouth is very important to prevent build up of plaque, food and calculus. Do NOT use a denture cleaner inside your mouth; instead use a soft toothbrush on natural teeth and gauze or a soft toothbrush to clean your gums, cheeks, tongue and roof of your mouth. Then, use mouth wash to rinse out your mouth.

Soaking your dentures overnight

Most types of dentures need to stay moist to keep their shape. Place the dentures in water or denture- soaking solution overnight. Cleaning tabs or powder can be mixed with water and placed into the denture bath with the denture overnight. We Recommend NovaDent Denture Cleaner and Renew Denture Cleaner. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on cleaning and soaking solutions.

Placing your dentures back into your mouth

Rinse dentures thoroughly especially if using a denture-soaking solution. Carefully brush your dentures with soap and water gently and place back into your mouth.

We provide ANNUAL RECALLS

We recommend you schedule regular dental checkups to check the inside of your mouth to make sure it's healthy. For your dentures we advise you to get a polishing "Hi-Shine" cleaning done from the Denturist; this will help with regular denture maintenance and will prolong the use of your denture. If you would like to see the Denturist for loose fitting dentures or discomfort before hand, you are more than welcome to schedule an appointment as needed.
